Our Next Generation Outreach has had phenomenal success since it rolled out in January of this year. During the first five months, our educator visited 60 schools in and around south-central Virginia. He presented a program rich in excitement, full of historical facts and vital information about natural resource conservation, stewardship, protecting the environment and overall health of Planet Earth. He covered many topics chosen to give extra attention to topics that are a part of science Standards of Learning. A survey will be conducted with teachers to measure the improvement in related SOL test scores. The total number of students and teachers that were reached during our first quarter was over 10,720.
In September, we will take our education mobile unit to the schools in Southwest Virginia. For two months, we will visit schools across the counties of Smyth, Washington, Tazewell, Dickenson, Buchanan, Russell, Lee, Scott and Wise.
While in the area, we will spend time observing and videoing the elk in the Grundy area. Our partners at the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or DGIF will accompany us. This project is especially exciting for us, and we are looking forward to it very much.
This summer, we are sponsoring a t-shirt fundraiser. This is the second shirt in our “Wild About” series. This one is called “Wild About The Woods” and features artwork by professional artist, Bryan SilverBax. Funds raised will be used for our Next Generation Outreach. All sizes can be ordered from youth small to adult 4XL, and are available in 6 wonderful colors. Contact us at 434-476-7038 to place an order since our online fundraiser has ended.
We appreciate the support. Contact Sue Adams at 434-476-7038 for information on scheduling our Next Generation Outreach at your school. Our program is free to Virginia schools. Schools in surrounding states will be considered for programs, but Virginia schools are given priority.
Shirt colors available in addition to the daisy shirt above are from top left: white, natural, lime, Carolina blue, and tangerine.
